Professor Jan Evans-Freeman




EPECentre Board of Directors

Professor Jan Evans-Freeman has a PhD from Manchester University in electronic engineering and has an extensive academic background as an engineering Professor, where she has researched the properties of next generation electronic devices such as quantum devices for next generation computing. Following a short spell as a postdoctoral researcher, in 1990 she was made a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Manchester, Institute of Science of Technology (UMIST), a technical University which merged with Manchester University in 2004.

In 2004 she moved to Sheffield to take up the post of Professor of Electronic Materials, and Head of Research Centre, at Sheffield Hallam University. She joined the University of Canterbury as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Engineering in 2009. She has held numerous research grants in the UK and the EU, and has successfully supervised many PhD and Masters students. She acts as an international referee of research grants in various research areas for the UK, South Africa and recently Finland, and is an Editor of the Journal of Materials Science.

She is a Board member of Transpower, IPENZ, the Electric Power Engineering Centre, the Wireless Research Centre and the UC Earthquake Centre. She was recently also on the Board of IRL prior to its change to Callaghan Innovation and was a Trustee of the Centre for Advanced Engineering (CAENZ).
